Women in Ministry - April 2009 Issue

Compassion Ministries

The opportunities to respond compassionately to the needs around us are immense. Each woman, called by God, needs to see through God's eyes of compassion those who are suffering and to learn from Him the where, why, how, and ifs of our response.

The world's soil is saturated with the tears of those who are hurting. The vastness of the needs surrounding our spheres of influence can be overwhelming. Pericles, an influential Greek statesman during the golden age of the 5th century, said, "What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others."

Compassion toward those who are suffering is an eternal investment. In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus expresses the responsibility of the Church toward those in need. As we reach out to the hurting, Jesus says, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (verse 40).

Because God's heart is touched by those who suffer, this issue is presented to challenge you to greater awareness of the needs around you and to provide biblical tools and examples to encourage you toward compassion ministries.
